Student Wellbeing

Student Wellbeing is a priority at Reidy Park Primary School.

This priority is supported by a Wellbeing Team (open to parent and community membership) and the training of all staff as we work towards being a Kidsmatter School.

KidsMatter is an Australian mental health and wellbeing intitiative for primary schools. Kidmatter is unique because it brings together all the most important people in a child’s life - especially families!

Reidy Park Primary School's commitment to Student Wellbeing is driven by research which clearly shows that children who are mentally healthy are better able to meet life’s challenges. They are also better learners and have stronger relationships.

"Good mental health in childhood lays the foundations for the future, and it is never too early for families to start supporting the mental health of children.”

All classrooms at Reidy Park Primary School have a keen focus on the Kidsmatter principles:

  • creating positive school and early childhood communities
  • teaching children skills for good social and emotional development
  • working together with families
  • recognising and getting help for children with mental health problems.

"The Huddle" has been established to support students who experience difficulties entering or being in classrooms for a range of reasons. This area is managed by our Deputy Principal, who has a counselling focus, our Christian Pastoral Support Worker and our SSO’s who work with students with learning issues.

"The Huddle" is  for students to ‘take a break’ in a calming and supervised area; a place for students to feel safe and to refocus before returning to class. A range of sensory activities and calming resources are available and include our resident rabbit Huddles.

Parents should contact our Deputy Principal if they have a student issue on the area of Social and Emotional health.
